Gweneth's First Week at Home
September 21, 2015
Gweneth's first week home was amazing. Because I had gone in to labor so early, and so many things weren't done, it was so nice to walk in the door and see our apartment all ready, thanks to my mom! There as a table cloth on the table, the kitchen was in order, and a makeshift changing table was all set up in Gweneth's nursery (again, because of the early arrival, we didn't have a changing pad yet!). Who knew how great a few towels and a garbage bag would work!
The first week was incredibly emotional. It was physically painful to be away from her, even for just a little bit. A few days in my mom and I went to Ralph's and then Costco. I almost broke down in Ralph's just looking for nursery water (at one point I saw her hospital hat in my purse... it was all I could do to not lay in the aisle and bawl). I could barely make it through Costco, and by the time I got home I was a wreck! And I was sentimental over everything. I didn't want to cut my nails because those were the nails that grew when I was pregnant. My tummy was disappearing and that made me sad because it was the tummy I had when I was pregnant. Justin and I kept our hospital bracelets on for days. I was actually recovering pretty quickly, which kind of made me sad because I felt like it was my connection to the day I had her (note: I am now very happy that I'm recovered and have clipped my nails with no issues!).
Our routine consisted of: Get up, look at the baby, take pictures of the baby, send pictures of the baby to everyone we know. :)
We got to take a lot of things home from the hospital including these swaddle blankets. Justin is the master swaddler. And it really helps calm her down.
Haha! These photos crack me up. Her face! What is she doing here?
Lindsey was in town, and was able to come by and meet Gweneth! Which was perfect because we got to meet Mateo. So cute!!!
Gweneth is so loved!!! She's already gotten to spend a lot of time with Oma and Aunt Ursie!
Having my mom here was amazing! Besides being incredibly helpful, it's just fun to have her here. And seeing her with Gweneth is so great.
In the hospital we fed her with these incredibly convenient ready made bottles. You just pop the top off and put a nipple on. We were going to use powder when we brought her home, but those bottles were so convenient that we ended up doing the ready made Similac bottles for the first month. Sooo awesome (although sometimes hard to find in stores).
I love these photos of her looking up at Justin. He would hold her there on the edge of the couch and she'd just look up at him. So cute!!!
Justin is usually up with her til late in the night, and then I take over and get up with her early in the morning.
Dressing her up is so much fun. This leopard outfit is so cute! She also has a ton of expressions! Here are just a few.
I love these diapers. At my baby shower in CA, they did this thing where they passed out diapers and then had the women at the shower write a note on them. It was so much fun to read these notes as we changed her diapers! I really didn't realize at the time how cool of an idea that was!
