Our Wedding!!!
September 25, 2014
Finally, our wedding photos! I really should have posted them sooner, but this summer has been so crazy (our wedding, Michigan reception, and then this is the busiest time of year for our business!).
So! Our wedding! The number one question we were asked when planning our wedding was "who's shooting your wedding!". Since we're both wedding photographers ourselves, we knew exactly what we wanted, and weren't going to settle for anything less! We have a very good and super talented friend in Nashville (I met her when I did that photography workshop in Austin), and we were thrilled when she said she was available! We flew her out here to shoot our big day, and we could not be happier with the results. Thank you so much Lindsey Johnson, for giving us stunning, creative artistic photos that we will cherish forever!!! All the photos in this blog were taken by her! :)
Our venue was the vineyard setting at Saddlerock Ranch. I might be biased, but I don't think there is a more gorgeous place to tie the knot (and that is saying something, because it is stiff competition out here in CA!). We wanted to keep it intimate, have it all outside, and be casual, yet a bit fancy (I mean, it is a wedding!). This venue did all of that. You can't even have more than 100 guests, and I think our final count was 85, which was perfect. All of it was coordinated by the incredibly talented and organized Erica with Twine Events!
I thought I'd end up with an expensive pair of shoes, but when I tried on the shoes I wore as Ginger's Maid of Honor last fall, they went perfect with the dress! :) Below are my earrings and headpiece, both from Beholden, and a shot of our gorgeous flowers (the flowers were just ridiculously amazing, all by Oak and the Owl).
I designed all of our invites and paper products. I loved doing it. I wanted something that no one else would have, plus I just enjoy that stuff and know exactly how I want it. Having a professional lab (the same one we use for our photography business) was perfect for getting everything printed up!
Another thing we loved about our venue was the view. I mean, you can't really beat this. Also, you can see in this photos how long the venue is. It's tiny, but stretched out. The ceremony was at the very edge. The cocktail hour was right behind the ceremony space, and then the reception was just a little walk up that brick sidewalk, in front of the Dome.
I had two dresses. :) This one was the one I wore for the ceremony and all of the pre-ceremony photos. I really never planned on getting two dresses, it seemed silly. But when we (my mom, gram, aunt and Ursie) went dress shopping, and we had two favorites, it's really the only thing that made sense! ;)
I gave Justin a pocket watch on our wedding day, with a little inscription in it.
Below is my reception dress. Very "party" like!
Our families were such a big help with this wedding, and I cannot believe all that my parents did. This was just a tiny token of appreciation!
Justin gave me a bag of thoughtful things on our wedding day, including this little cub (we have nicknames for each other... that's the meaning of that... hehe).
Our makeup and hair stylists were so sweet and super talented! One of my favorite parts of the day (there were many) was hanging out with my bridesmaids and mom and getting ready. It was so relaxed and everyone seemed to really enjoy being with each other! All hair and was done by the super talented and sweet Tara Shakespeare!
The dome (where we got ready, it's right on the property) was the perfect place to get makeup and hair done and get dressed. This is a little room upstairs. I just loved the detail on my dress! It was so gorgeous! Both dresses were from Beholden (I basically got all of my wedding stuff from there!).
My dad and I are both very sensitive. I was surprised at how well we both got through the day! This was the first time he saw me, and I have him a personalized handkerchief with a note on it as well! :)
Justin and I saw each other before the ceremony (a.k.a. "first looks"). This is so great for a number of reasons. We get to see each other for the first time on our wedding day in a very intimate setting, and we get to have all of our photos done before the ceremony (as opposed to waiting after and then cramming them all in during cocktail hour).
Here we are seeing each other for the first time. He loved my dress! And he looked so handsome!
Isn't this bouquet insanely gorgeous??? I love it so much.
And our amazing bridal party!!! We're standing in front of the very VW bus that was used in "Little Miss Sunshine". The owners of this property collect a lot of interesting things.
My 'maids! I love these girls so much! This was seriously the best group of bridesmaids there ever was. Everyone was so nice, they all got along and they all seemed so excited to be part of our big day! They were all so generous and sweet, thank you girls!!!
It was also cool to have a mix of people representing different parts of my life standing up there with me! From left to right, Ursie (my new sister-in-law and Justin's sister), Jordan (bestie from ACU), Ginger (lifelong bestie, I met her when she was 0), Lindsey (other bestie from ACU), Amy (besties since high school), and Suzy (sister-in-law for 3+ years and my brother's wife).
I love how all of their dresses look! I just told them a color palette and the length of the dress and had them all get their own! I love how they all go together!
My supermodel bridesmaids:
Justin had a great group of guys standing up with him, as well! Some are his best friends from USC, along with his brother and then my brother!
This is a life-sized frame... obviously.
And then a door in the middle of nature! They have such quirky and charming things here. One of the reasons we loved it so much!
For most of our guests, this was a destination wedding. We cannot believe how many people made the trip!
On the left: Josh, Suzy, myself and Justin. On the right: my dad, my mom, myself and Justin
My cousin Ryan and his wife Rebekah, along with my Aunt Vickie (all the way from Georgia!), then my Uncle Joe and Aunt Karen (from San Antonio, TX!), my parents, grandparents, and Josh and Suzy (all the way from Michigan!), and my cousin Amy at the end (also from San Antonio).
The ladies! :)
The guys!
Linda and Bev and Bob Blair made it out as well! Linda and Bev are with me on the right! :)
Our preacher Jack Burch married us! He did such a good job, and it meant so much having someone we both respect and enjoy officiate our wedding. Here we are below!
There are more photos of Justin's entire family later on, but below is a handful! His sister Caroline, then Justin's dad and his wife Wei, and on the other side of us is Justin's mom Camilla, sister Ursie and brother Alex.
We had such gorgeous details for our ceremony!!! :)
My dad walked me down to "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley. I thought we'd both be a ball of tears, but I think we did okay.
I love this shot of Justin hugging my dad. My family loves him so much (and vise versa!).
We walked back down the aisle to "Turn, Turn, Turn" by The Byrds. :)
Justin's got a huge group as well! From left to right: Sal (Camilla's husband), Nick, Camilla, Chandy (Justin's other sister), Calista (niece), Reina and Riska (close family friends), Katrina and Natasha (nieces), and Natasha's friend Stephen, and on the other side of us is: Karl and Wei, Alex, Myrna, Caroline, David and Ursie
In the left photo is Myrna & Alex and David and Ursie. In the right photo is Chandy, her three girls and Caroline.
Loved our reception details! I mean, these flowers really make it! We had a little sweetheart table there at the front, and then we were surrounded by ten large wooden tables, filled with our family and friends. My mom found that really cool "kitchen paper" on all of the tables, and I made the black glittery table numbers (which took way longer than it should have!).
Our first dance was to "Fade into You" by Mazzy Star. That was one of Justin's favorite songs in the 90's, and I just loved the thought of having our first dance to it!
My dad and I danced to "Daydream Believer" by The Monkees. I picked this because one of my favorite (and there are many) memories of growing up was watching The Monkees with my dad! And my brother was there, too. ;) So one of their hits was perfect.
Justin and his mom danced to "The Tide is High" by Blondie. He picked this because she loves to dance, and he was so right! She didn't even know what the song was going to be, and they didn't even practice anything, but as soon as the music started she busted out her moves. It was so sweet!
We went out into this flowery field as the sun was setting for a few more shots!
Justin and I each picked one person from each side to give a toast. I picked my dad, and he picked his sister Ursie. They both did a great job! :)
As it got a little cooler, I put on my little bunny fur-looking coat (I don't think it's actual bunny fur, but it looks like it!). I mean, it's so adorable, right?
Gourmet food trucks are the thing out here, so we had the Border Grill food truck cater our wedding!
Oh! And instead of cake, we had mini pies and homemade ice cream!!! Oh my goodness! They were so good! It's a good thing I snatched a few as soon as they put them out, because they were gone in no time!
We also had a photo booth. Best decision ever. Not only did guests love it (it was so much fun!!!) but we had a photo of everyone that was there (for the most part... there were a few that didn't make it into the booth!). AND it served as our guest book. So everyone's comments and well wishes were right next to their photo. I cannot recommend a photo booth enough (we used Mobile Photo Booth)!!!
And then we danced! :) There were plenty of fun dance songs, and the last song of the night was "I Can't Help Falling in Love" by Ingrid Michaelson (a cover of Elvis Presley's).
It was an absolutely amazing, gorgeous, unforgettable day. It really was. Thank you so much to our families, we could not have put that together without you. And thank you to every single guests who came. Who took the time to be there with us, support us and celebrate with us!!! We love you all! :)
