Justin and I went to Washington D.C. this week. And before I get into that, can I just say, if you have the chance to fly Virgin America, do it. It was the best flight I have ever been on. The staff was so nice, they plane's decor is very chic and they have these TV's on the back of every seat where you can watch TV, movies, play games, chat with other passengers, everything.
So D.C. It's such a cool place. We were there for a friend's wedding but we crammed in as much sight seeing as we could. My legs are killing me. We got in later on Friday night and got up super early on Saturday. We must have walked 6 miles before heading back to get ready for the wedding.
Saturday morning before the wedding we hit the National Mall.

So first we headed to the Smithsonian. Its such a gorgeous building and we both thought this was the entire thing, but turns out there's like, seven other museums.

So after heading out of Smithsonian #1 we walked down to the Capital Building. I love the Capital Building. Like many of the buildings and memorials in D.C., it has so much history and looks so powerful.

These lion statues were right in front of the Capital Building, so it only made sense to take a picture with it.
So next we went into the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. Inside is the Hope Diamond. And can I say, not impressed. I thought (because I had no idea what it was) that it was going to be this clear, three foot by three foot diamond guarded by like, a bunch of guards. But instead it was this mis-shapen blueish thing... I don't know, Justin disagreed with me, but, I just didn't see the big deal.

A view of the Washington Monument from the Lincoln Memorial

The Korean War Memorial is the most dramatic. They almost look alive and the expressions on their faces are so haunting. The picture does not do it justice.

We were able to take the Metro to and from downtown.

I've worked with Conor for a very long time on HDIL. He recently moved to Washington D.C., Emily's (his wife's) hometown. Kristine (one of the HDIL producers), Justin and myself flew out for the wedding.

I loved where they had their reception. It was this older building. Each room was decorated differently. It was so cute.

Her sister made the cake.

Here's Kristine and myself at the reception.

On Sunday, Kristine, Justin and myself did some more sight seeing. Below is the Iwo Jima Memorial. It's identical to the famous photo of the six men raising the American flag at Iwo Jima.

My Uncle Jack (Great Uncle, my Grandma's brother) was in the air force and was buried in the Arlington Cemetery. So when my gram found out we were going to D.C. she told us where we could find where he's buried. I had no idea he had done so much. When we got to where he was buried on his headstone it listed all of the wars he was involved with. He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. We also found out he was awarded many different medals and honors. His entire website is here.

What a fun trip. Washington DC is very cool. And how great is it that you got to see your Great Uncle Jack's head stone!

  2. I'm sad to say that I've never been to Washington DC. I think it's one of those places that I'd need to spend two weeks so I could see everything. I'm so jealous!
