Washington D.C.
March 17, 2008So D.C. It's such a cool place. We were there for a friend's wedding but we crammed in as much sight seeing as we could. My legs are killing me. We got in later on Friday night and got up super early on Saturday. We must have walked 6 miles before heading back to get ready for the wedding.
Saturday morning before the wedding we hit the National Mall.
So first we headed to the Smithsonian. Its such a gorgeous building and we both thought this was the entire thing, but turns out there's like, seven other museums.

So next we went into the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. Inside is the Hope Diamond. And can I say, not impressed. I thought (because I had no idea what it was) that it was going to be this clear, three foot by three foot diamond guarded by like, a bunch of guards. But instead it was this mis-shapen blueish thing... I don't know, Justin disagreed with me, but, I just didn't see the big deal.

The Korean War Memorial is the most dramatic. They almost look alive and the expressions on their faces are so haunting. The picture does not do it justice.
We were able to take the Metro to and from downtown.

Here's Kristine and myself at the reception.

My Uncle Jack (Great Uncle, my Grandma's brother) was in the air force and was buried in the Arlington Cemetery. So when my gram found out we were going to D.C. she told us where we could find where he's buried. I had no idea he had done so much. When we got to where he was buried on his headstone it listed all of the wars he was involved with. He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. We also found out he was awarded many different medals and honors. His entire website is here.

What a fun trip. Washington DC is very cool. And how great is it that you got to see your Great Uncle Jack's head stone!
ReplyDeleteI'm sad to say that I've never been to Washington DC. I think it's one of those places that I'd need to spend two weeks so I could see everything. I'm so jealous!
