San Francisco
July 24, 2008My parents came to CA to visit last week. We all took a road trip up to San Fran. We had never been there before and I assumed, since it was in CA and it's like, always a million degrees here, that it would be the same here. But I couldn't have been more wrong. It was so cold we had to buy some stylish San Francisco jackets off the street.
We took the coast up and saw some really gorgeous scenery. We hopped out a couple of times to take some pics.
We spent part of our time in downtown SF. First we took a tour bus around town:We went to a Giants game that evening.
Here we are, my mom and I sporting our new SF jackets. Now, I was worried that they were going to be hideous, I mean, we bought them off the street for 17.99 out of sheer need, but I have to say we look pretty good in those SF windbreakers. And they kept us warm too.
The next day we checked out Alcatraz. Alcatraz is a prison, well, used to be a prison, on an island right off the coast. So now they do tours, you take the fairy boat over, it's interesting. They have this audio tour you do, and we learned so much about it. Right next to SF is wine country, which is actually where we were staying. So we spent a day doing a wine tour. This was fun, not only because we got to learn about all these wines and how they make them, etc. but also because my family never drinks, and when you taste 5 to 6 wines at a winery, and you go to four wineries, well, you get to see your parents a little more giggly than usual.
We went to some really nice wineries, Cline, Roche, Jacuzzi and Roshambo. Our favorite was Roche. Not only did they have the best wine and presentation, but they know talent when they see it. Bob, our wine presenter, picked me to suction wine out of barrel with a special ... wine thing...
Here are a few more SF pics
Below are Sea Lions. After the earthquake a bunch of things changed in SF, like water temperature and other random things like that, and Sea Lions started coming there. So there they were, laying out in the sun. Here we are at Ghirardelli Square (above)
Back in LA I took my parents to the Hollywood Sign
And also to the Paramount Ranch. A lot of things have been shot at the ranch, but in particular Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and the Love Comes Softly series on the Hallmark Channel. This was great because my mom and I LOVE both of those.
We ran into a Park Ranger there and she opened up some of the sets. Above my dad is in a jail cell that is used in a lot of scenes shot there. Below, if you're a Dr. Quinn fan, you may recognize this as her clinic
