New Gang Requirements: Creativity

I love getting those e-mails from friends or family warning me about the elaborate lengths "serial killers" and "thieves" are going to to get my money or rape me. I used to hate getting them because they were so obviously false, but they've become so entertaining. The latest one really gives gang members a lot of credit:

BE ALERT: Wayne County Sheriff's Department - VERY IMPORTANT FOR WOMEN TO READ

On the way to Canton , driving on Michigan Avenue , on Thursday
morning, I saw an infant car seat on the side of the road with a
blanket draped over it. I did not stop, even thoug
h I had all kinds of
thoughts running through my head. But when I got to my destination, I
called the Canton PD and they were going to check it out. This is what
I was told...

"Several things to be aware of .. gangs and thieves, are now plotting
different ways to get a person to "stop" their vehicle.

"There is a gang initiation reported by the local police department
that gangs are placing a car seat by the road...with a fake baby in
it...waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the baby.
Note that the location of this car seat will usually be beside a
wooded or grassy (field) area ...and the person - woman - will be
dragged into the woods- beaten and raped- usually left for dead. DO
NOT STOP . DIAL 9-1-1 AND REPORT WHAT YOU SAW.

Please talk to your loved ones about this. This is a new tactic used
and I would hate for anyone to fall victim to this kind of crime.

Please be safe

This is obviously false. And I understand that people forward these e-mails because they care about the people they are sending them to (thank you), but it is insane how fake they are! First of all, the gang that pulls this stunt is losing. I mean, I'm pretty sure the gangs are doing just fine harassing, robbing, killing, etc. just by using their guns, breaking into cars, homes, what have you. So they don't need to come up with creative and elaborate ways that are, let's face it, probably not going to work and even if they did, it really puts a lot of work on the gang member's part. "Man! Those other gangs are really wreaking havoc, were so far behind!" "I know, I mean, we put the baby seat out there with the fake baby near the wooded area next to the field, but people, mainly women, aren't stopping!" "I was really hoping to bring some creativity to the gang. I'm really disappointed".

Also? Do you really need the fake baby? Didn't the person say there was a blanket draped over it? I mean, that's really going above and beyond. Way to go overachieving gang member! "Man! You don't have to put the fake baby in there! You can't even see it because the blanket covers it!" "If you're going to do something, Tito, you should do it all the way" (fastens baby and gently covers seat with a neatly folded blanket).

Oh, and by the way, if I, or someone I love, is in trouble, I hope the woman who wrote this letter isn't the one driving by. She wasn't even aware of the new gang/baby plot, and she LEFT A BABY ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. She says that she "did not stop" even though she had "all sorts of thoughts" running through her head. What does that mean??? And why is "stop" in quotes? Does it mean something else that I'm not aware of? Like when someone says they're taking off work to go to the "doctor" (in quotes) when really they're going to Vegas? Also, she needs a 101 course in grammar, talk about your run-on sentence! (obviously she is not real).

You can use Snopes.com to bust these myths. So when you get an e-mail like this and you're worried, before you go actually not helping real babies, I suggest you do some research.

  2. Hahaha! I do the same thing! Yeah, seriously, I mean, even if they're stealing the car seat, they're still adding an extra step...
