Maybe You Shouldn't Be Driving...?
July 14, 2010We were driving today, and there was this van in front of us with these long metal springs sticking out of the front and back right tires. When I asked what they were Justin explained that they were called "feelers", and that they were there, usually for old people, who didn't really know where the curb was. That way, when the springs hit the curb they'd know they were "close".
I'm sorry, but you mean to tell me that when someone walks into the DMV and says "hey! I can't really see when I drive!" they say "here's metal springs to stick out the side of your car!"? It's basically a white cane for a car, and I don't know about you, but I don't want to be in the cross walk when the van who needs a white cane to know where things are starts coming my way.
You shouldn't be driving!!!

Curb feelers, Em !! They were really popular back in the day - especially in Deetroit. I still see quite a few on the boy's rides when they have rims that cost more than the car. Back in the good old days when whitewalls were popular they used them to protect brushing up against the curb - same with raised white letters. Ask your Grandpa ... he probably had them (maybe still does!)
