I saw this segment last night on NBC's Nightly News with Brian Williams. They do this "Making a Difference" thing at the end to lighten people's spirits. Anyway, the segment they played last night really touched my heart. The video says it all, but briefly, it's about a program at high schools called "Circle of Friends", and it pairs up "special needs students with non-disabled peers" for lunch dates in the school cafeteria. They do some things out of school as well. I guess it started at one high school and has now grown and is all over. This looks like an amazing program and I hope it catches on in all high schools. We could have used this in our school growing up, there is actually a program at my old H.S. that brings a lot of special needs students there. Nothing like "Circle of Friends" was done when I was there, not because we didn't want to, it just wasn't really on our radar for the most part, which is sad. Anyway, this is great and I'm going to keep my eyes open for fund raising events, etc.
