THE MOST EXPENSIVE ICE CREAM. EVER.

As you may know, I love Sprinkles Cupcakes. So when I saw they were opening up Sprinkles Ice Cream (right next to their cupcake shop in Beverly Hills) I did the only natural thing. "Liked" their Ice Cream page on Facebook and stalked them every day until they opened.

They finally opened and we were able to go this weekend.

The front of their store is adorable, with white lace at the top of the building and a little colorful ice cream cone in the corner. I entered expecting to be overwhelmed by the amazing menu they were sure to have. But... there was no menu. How was I to decipher between all of the wonderful things they had? My confusion was quickly forgotten when I saw how cute the shop was! It was mostly white with some ice cream-like art on one wall, and had a large circle counter area in the middle of the shop. Their large windows were completely open and there was a huge bench you could sit on. On the ceiling was a big circle cut-out, and in red was squiggly cursive. It was hard to read, but I could only imagine it was words about ice cream and chocolate and all sorts of wonderful things. It was like Candy Land!

When I asked for the menu the girl behind the counter pointed behind me to this little part of the wall that had a list of flavors on it. Oh, okay. I mean, it's a tiny part of the wall and is behind me, and has no prices... but I already love you guys so I will forgive you for this "menu". I saw a few cookies in a clear container, so I assumed ice cream sandwiches were an option. One for me and one for Justin! "Sure!" she says, and has me head over to the other side of the circle to pay while she starts making them.

Exciting!!!

So I walked over to the register, dreaming of how out-of-this-world my ice cream sammies were going to be and tell the girl what I just ordered. She smiles and says "$17.00"!

$17.00??? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND??? This is ice cream. I have been a loyal fan of Sprinkles for years and have dedicated tons of time stalking your Facebook page and you want to charge me $8.50 for an ice cream sandwich? I'm so out of here!

Is what I should have said.

Instead, I just smiled, handed over my credit card, and reminded myself at how amazing these were going to be.

As I waited for what seemed like an hour for them to make my ice cream sandwich, the fact that I had just paid ONE MILLION DOLLARS for something I could have gotten for $3.50 at Diddy Riese started to bother me. All of a sudden the oh-so-adorable ice cream shop started to look less sweet.

The "cute white room" started to look like some sort of sanitarium. All of a sudden I realized how ridiculously high the counter was and that I had to step on my tip-toes to even see anyone over it. I noticed they had the name "Andy Warhol" written on the wall in red and I became extremely annoyed that I didn't get why they had done this. Did he come back from the dead to design this store? Are these words his? Did he like ice cream???

(I later Googled "Andy Warhol" and "butterscotch" and found he did say: "Rodeo Drive is like a giant butterscotch sundae—even the nuts are delicious." But still. Most people aren't going to know that which makes this new ice cream shop not only ridiculously expensive but pretentious. And they didn't even use the entire quote. That would be like saying "Life is like a box of chocolates" and quoting Forrest Gump and stopping there.)

Finally my ice cream sandwiches were ready. I met Justin at the car and handed him his sandwich.

THESE HAD BETTER BE GREAT.

They were okay. I mean, they were good. But I had built it up to be so amazing (like Sprinkles cupcakes) that I was severely disappointed. Plus I didn't even finish mine. I had about $6.25 of ice cream sandwich left over.

Oh Sprinkles Ice Cream. Never again.

  1. Ha! Those counters ARE really tall! Sorry your experience was not up to expectations! Maybe their cookies were the expensive part. But if it's not blow-your-mind-good ice cream, then it's still not worth it!
