There has been so much buzz about "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", that I really had no plans to see it. When things are over-hyped like this, more often than not they're a disappointment. But we were up at Justin's dad's this weekend and he had the movie, so we figured we'd throw it in.

I loved it. It was well worth the hype, it was so well done. The casting was great, the writing kept us interested every step of the way and the actress who plays the lead Lisbeth Salander did such an outstanding job.

This movie, and the two that follow it ("The Girl who Played with Fire" and "The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest") are adapted from the books. I haven't read the books, but unlike a lot of books-to-movies, this one is easy to follow, even if you haven't read the novels.

I will warn you though, it can be pretty graphic and at times disturbing, but it totally serves the story. The third and final installment (Hornet's Nest) is in selected theaters right now, and Justin and I got to see it tonight. Best trilogy ever!!! I seriously loved it. I am so impressed with the whole storyline and how they get you to become so invested. You are so pulling for her and anyone on her side. She is basically awesome.

A crazy thing about the author, Stieg Larsson, after finishing the third book, and before the trilogy was published, he had a heart attack and died. So he didn't get to see how successful it was. There are actually some interesting parallels between the author's life and the characters in the book/movie. You can read more about him here.

They are making an American version. It will be interesting to see their interpretation, but personally I think the original Swedish version is so great, that I wish they'd just show that one.

I read the trilogy this summer and likes the books. My cousin, who also read them, did not care for the Swedish version of the first movie so I'm interested to hear that you loved it. I guess I'll have to see it and decide for myself!

  2. Really? Justin's dad and his friends all read the books and they liked it. I know it's rare that you read a book and are happy with the movie, but I loved these movies. They were so well done. Can't wait to hear what you think! When will you be watching them?
