Cali Capri's Nursery
August 12, 2010One of my closest and life long friends is having a baby. A little girl she's naming Cali Capri. I've known Ginger for 27 years (since she was born) and she's like the sister I never had. Our families (along with the Blairs) have always been close, so when our parents had kids it only made sense that we would be like family as well!
Here are some pics of me and Ginger over the the years:
1.) Josh, Ginger, me and Jamin in cowboy hats. 2.) Tie Dye birthday gifts for Ginger! 3.) Jesse's (not pictured) birthday party. With Josh, Jamin, myself, Ginger and Alex Blair in the high chair. 4.) Jamin's birthday with Josh, myself and Ginger making sure we have a front row seat. 5.) The doll house Gimmy made for me won "Best in Show" (Grand Prize) at the fair. Jamin and Josh are with my cousin Caitlin in the stroller, and Ginger and myself are with my cousin Lindsey in the stroller. 6.) Ginger and I looking extra cool playing a riveting game of string at Greenfield Village. 7.) Continuing to look cool, Ginger sits on an old timey bike while I stand by.
Ginger's mom Linda is like a second mom to me, and my mom is like a second mom to Ginger. So when it came time to do her nursery and throw a shower, my mom jumped right in.
Before I cover the nursery and shower, I have to cover the extended family little Cali is going to have. Along with amazing parents and grandparents (Linda is going to be such an amazing grandma!), and the rest of her family, my mom and grandma (along with many others) are really exited to be a part of her life. My mom is going to be called "Honey Graham", and she refers to Cali as her little "Graham Cracker". My grandma will be called "Golden Graham". I think it's adorable.
This little girl has so much love and support and she's not even here yet!
So, the nursery.
When Ginger mentioned turning her second bedroom into a nursery, my mom and Linda mentioned decorating it and surprising her. Ginger was totally up for it. My mom and Linda worked for weeks on it. I'd talk to my mom via video chat and she'd show me all of the cute stuff she got. The shower and the nursery seriously monopolized our conversation for months.
The nursery renovation snowballed into re-doing the bathroom, laundry room, foyer and rearranging the furniture in her living room. By the time I got to MI, they were really close to having the nursery done. Super late on Sunday evening they were finally ready for the "big reveal". I wanted to wait til the next day because they were going to video tape our reactions and I felt like I looked pretty rough. In fact, I know that I did because I said to Ginger "I don't want to go because we'll be on camera and I look rough" and she didn't deny it.
But Ginger has been staying at her parents house so that she didn't ruin the surprise and has been waiting forever to see this. So off to her condo we went.
Ginger and I each have a Flip video camera (which I love), so we gave one to each of our moms and told them to video tape us. Here is the video. Ginger reacts like a normal super-surprised-I-am-totally-in-love-with-this-room person would, and I go unnecessarily comment crazy. Although Ginger does shout out something at one point about being an old man.
As a surprise to Ginger, they re-did her bathroom as Cali's bathroom. It's super cute. The owl theme continues, and Ginger loves it.
Owls were the theme of the week. Along with doing it in her nursery and bathroom, it was a theme in her shower as well. I loved it. The nursery is SO cute, they did such a big job. And I have to mention that my dad did the measuring and taping off of the stripes on the wall.
My mom is SUPER talented, and this nursery is just one of her many designing projects! I hope Cali loves it as much as we do. I'm sure my mom will transform it into a gorgeous big girl's room when she's ready. Here are some nursery pics.

So...when's your mom coming to Texas? I could use some help with our house :) She did an AMAZING job on the nursery and bathroom!
ReplyDeleteHaha, aw thanks! She had a lot of fun doing it!!! I'm sure your house will look amazing when you're done with it. How exiting!
ReplyDeleteWow. That's a neat looking nursery room! My wife would love to know more creative ideas from your mom. Before my wife gave birth to our daughter, we had to do a nursery remodel. Minnesota's arts and crafts have added a touch of uniqueness to the room. But before we could start and since we are not professionals, we had to inquire from several remodelers (Minnesota based) about the best way to manage this nursery project.
ReplyDeleteYou guys deserve a pat on the back. Good job!
